Ceroc, the biggest Dance club in the world has been introducing beginners to the world of partner dance for over 30 years.

Anyone can do it and lots are!

We teach a modern fusion of the popular partner Dances with influences from Salsa, Swing and Ballroom.

The dance is very easy to learn as there is no footwork to learn and we guarantee you will be confident enough to dance  after your very first lesson.

It's fun, it’s easy, it’s a fantastic way to keep fit and it’s a great way to socialise and meet people.

CEROC is a complete night out!

When can I come to the classes?

You can start Ceroc whenever you like. We run beginners lessons at every class night.  It is not a course. Just turn up when it suits you. The beginner lessons are aimed at brand new dancers. So even if you have never set foot on a dance floor before, as we go right back to basics you won’t ever feel out of your depth – We specialize in two left feet!

What happens during the classes?

We start the night with a 45 minute beginner Lesson where you will learn a simple routine of 3 moves. The moves are all broken down and taught in simple steps.

During the class the teacher will rotate everyone so you get to dance with different people, with different styles.

After the beginners class we then play music for 15mins so you can practice the moves you have just learnt with the people that you have met in the lesson.

Then we run a 30 mins intermediate class for people who have been dancing 6 weeks or more. However the newer beginners will practice the routine they have just learnt in the class in a smaller group with some of our more experienced and friendly volunteers called “Taxi Dancers”. Hail one at any point during the evening if you would like some help. They are dedicated to helping beginners!

What happens after the classes?

After the intermediate class everyone returns to the main room and we play music so that you can dance and practice the moves you have just learnt. Learning to dance relies on muscle memory so the more you practice the easier it becomes. This is social dance time that we call ‘Freestyle’. You are free to dance as much as you like, and leave whenever you feel ready.

How much does it cost?

In Ceroc Passion most classes cost £8.00 for entry plus there is a £2.00 life time membership fee on your first night.

When and where are the classes in my area?

Please see our VENUES page.

Who can I dance with?

You can come with a significant other, a group of friends or on your own. There’s no need to bring a partner as we partner people up at the beginning of the class and then rotate partners every few minutes – you’ll get to meet lots of new people.

Do I have to ‘rotate’ in the classes?

We do prefer that you do participate in the classes and the moving round. As a beginner you may be tempted to want to stay with your partner or the friend that you came with, but dancing with a range of different people will aid your progression. Also we have experienced dancers who join in with the beginner lesson just to help you out!

What is the average age?

Ceroc is an adult dance class and there really is no upper age restriction. Ceroc dancers come from all walks of life and we have people as young as 16 and as old as 80 learning to dance. However most people are between 25 and 55 years.

What should I wear?

For the general classes people normally come casually dressed. What would you wear to a local bar or pub would be suitable! It’s important that you try and wear footwear that is comfortable but not with a ‘grippy’ sole. There are a lot of spins and movements in the dance and if you wear grippy rubber-soled shoes like some trainers your feet will stick to the floor! You don’t need to wear special dance shoes, just aim for comfort.

Are there any health benefits to Ceroc?

There are many health benefits associated with aerobic exercise and that is what dance is. Weight loss, increased fitness and stamina, increased bone density, flexibility and toning. Also exercise releases endorphins that make you feel good so you get that ‘feel-good-factor’ too.

What happens during the social ‘freestyle’?

‘Freestyle’ is the social dancing part of the night where you can practice the moves that you have learned with the people that you met in the lesson. People will come up and ask you to dance and you are also free to ask anyone else to dance. General etiquette is that if someone builds up the courage to ask you to dance, the answer is always “yes!”. It’s perfectly acceptable for ladies to ask men to dance.

After you have one or two dances with someone, ensure that you thank them and then you are free to sit down, grab a drink or move on to ask someone else to dance. The music is very varied so hopefully you’ll find something that you want to dance to from Pop, Dance, Swing, Disco, Soul, R&B, Latin, Blues etc.

Should I stay for the ‘Freestyle’!

Please do try and stay for the freestyles and dance as much as possible. The more you dance, the faster you will gain confidence with Ceroc and the more your muscle memory will remember the movements.

I’m nervous!

Everybody feels nervous on their first night, and it’s not uncommon to feel a little clunky and uncoordinated for your first few dances. Don’t worry, never apologise and stick with it. The more you practice the faster it will begin to feel very natural.

The most important part of a Ceroc night is having fun! You really will be able to dance a few moves even after your first night so just enjoy yourself. If you are worried about dancing with other people to begin with then just sit and have a drink and watch other people dancing, as that’s a great way to learn too.
